The SafeAir CM offers a simple single panel package for ventilation interlocking a commercial kitchen to aid sites in meeting BS6173:2009 and IGEM/UP19.

It can also monitor for air quality when fitted with the required detectors with carbon dioxide PPM levels displayed on the LCD.

It features built-in two-channel current monitor designed for use within commercial kitchens, set up with a simple button press.

The easy to use OLED provides clear messages giving real-time information rather than just LED indications.

Fan load sensitivity range on each fan is 30 milliamps to 20 amps (max).

It is designed for use within commercial kitchens, to aid sites in meeting BS6173:2009 and IGEM/UP19. It can also monitor for air quality when fitted with the required detectors with carbon dioxide PPM levels displayed on the LCD.

The easy to use LCD provides clear messages giving real-time information rather than just LED indications.

It is a requirement that any mechanical ventilation within a kitchen environment (both supply and extract) is switched on and running before the use of any gas appliances can take place. With the SafeAir if the ventilation is not switched on, the LCD display informs the operator that the fans are off.

For the interlocking of the ventilation, our current monitoring units (CM2M-K or CM2L-K) or pressure differential switches can be used.

The recently updated V4 system can monitor for carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) out-of-hours so even when the panel is switched off an alarm can be raised, or ventilation switched on. This provides additional safety monitoring particularly if solid fuel appliances are installed within the kitchen.

Gas proving must be fitted in any commercial kitchen which has appliances fitted without flame failure devices (FFD’s). Gas proving should be considered for the long-term benefit and safety of the site when considering other gas standards and that the majority of leaks identified are before the FFD’s.

Demand-controlled ventilation fail-safe gas valve and relay checking are just some of the new developments making Medem systems continue to be the most reliable, safest and flexible available today.

Each CM2M-K can be used to interlock 2 fans, the fans are connected by taking the live feed for each fan through the current monitor (before any speed controllers/inverters).

Fan load sensitivity range on each fan is 30 milliamps to 24 amps (max).

Features and Details:

There are 3 LED indications:

  • 1x Green, for the 12-volt power to the CM2M-K.
  • 2x Red, one for ‘Fan A’ and another for ‘Fan B’ load detection.

When the fans are switched on and the load is detected (installation instructions) the corresponding side’s NO/NC contact will close and the red LED will light, this will flash for the first 15 minutes after current detection and then become solid. The flashing LED helps us to identify a fan intermittently stalling.
